Signs You May Need the Services of Roofing Contractors

Posted on

One of the most overlooked areas of the home is the roof. This is quite unfortunate considering that the roof is what provides your entire household protection against the elements. Due to its constant exposure to the changing weather patterns, your roof is likely to suffer from wear and tear. The trick to ensuring that you do not need a complete roof replacement is spotting any damages early and having them repaired before they become exacerbated. Here are some of the signs that you may need the services of roofing contractors.

Exterior signs

Missing shingles: The first sign of problems with your roof would be missing shingles. If there are numerous empty spaces on your roof, it means there is access for rainwater to collect and puddle in our roof. Over time, this excessive moisture will gradually penetrate the ceiling of your home and become a leak. If you notice missing shingles on your roof, it is best to have the roofing contractors come in and replace them post haste.

Bare shingles: Bare shingles refer to shingles that look naked when compared to the rest. Typically, shingles tend to be coated with some grainy asphalt as some form of protection against the weather elements. Over time, this asphalt cover can disintegrate and be swept off by either high winds or rain. You can find signs of this in your gutters too as some of the grainy asphalt will collect there. Bare shingles do not provide much protecting for your home and disintegrate easily, thus, it would be pertinent to have them replaced.

Curled shingles: curling and buckling of shingles is another sign that you require roof repairs. As these shingles curl and buckle, it means there are now openings in your roof that will provide an access point for moisture to seep into your residence.

Interior signs

Cracks in the ceiling: one of the first signs you can look for in the interior of your home are cracks that appear in your ceiling. Long cracks typically indicate that the roof is sagging, thus exerting excessive pressure on the ceiling. In most cases, the decking of the roof will have to be replaced in its entirety as the structural integrity has been compromised.

Dark spots and peeling: Dark spots are a sure sign of water damage and this indicates that your roof is leaking. The dark spots can also indicate the growth of mould and mildew and this could prove hazardous to the health of all the inhabitants in the home.
